(Open) Data of the Crowds

(Open) Data of the Crowds

Open Data has opened up Public Sector Information (PSI) in order to facilitate and involve citizens in policy making. Data of the Crowds envisions citizens (crowd) contributing data to the commons that can be mixed up with PSI to increase coverage and granularity of data on societal issues such as air quality, noise, temperature, safety, etc. Applications that provide citizens directly with surplus value from the aggregated data, can motivate citizens to collect and provide their data.

Points

People don't have to be dependent from governmental data, they can generate data themselves. In collaboration, people and governments can collect data to get insight in societal issues, to debate and to decide together.
